Traditional talk therapy — the classic "sit and process" model, often rooted in cognitive-behavioral techniques (CBT), psychoanalysis, or general psychotherapy — has helped millions of people gain insight, reframe thoughts, and build coping skills. It's a powerful tool for many, and we honor the good it does.
But it's not the right fit for every story, every nervous system, or every kind of pain. Research and real human experience show that traditional talk therapy falls short for a significant number of people — estimates range from 25-50% reporting limited or no benefit, and some even feeling worse after sessions.

A typical counseling session at After Storm Counseling lasts for 1 hour, although some sessions may be longer or shorter depending on your needs and preferences.
After Storm Counseling counselors can help with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief and loss, trauma, and more.
Everything you share in our sessions — your words, your feelings, your story — is held in the strictest confidence. As an independent therapist, I take every reasonable step to protect your information, including using secure, encrypted platforms for virtual sessions, confidential record-keeping, and GDPR-compliant tools where applicable.
Like all licensed mental health professionals, there are rare, legally mandated exceptions to confidentiality. These include situations of imminent harm to yourself or others, or court-ordered disclosures. I will always discuss these limits with you upfront during our first conversation, and we can explore any concerns together. Outside of these specific circumstances, your information remains yours alone.

We don't believe in keeping clients "in treatment" indefinitely. Instead, we work with the principle that you are the expert on your own life, and our role is to help you access your inherent resilience as quickly and safely as possible.
You're not here to be "fixed" forever — you're here to reclaim your life after the storm. We commit to efficient, respectful work that honors your time, your energy, and your right to feel whole again sooner rather than later.
That's common, and it's not a sign you're "resistant" or broken. Many come to us after talk therapy helped some but left the body still on alert. We specialize in those "stuck" places — using somatic tools to help the nervous system feel safe enough for deeper processing. Your past experiences are valuable info; we'll build on what worked and shift what didn't.
We also offer intensive retreats. Intensive retreats (also called therapy intensives or immersion retreats) are short, immersive experiences — typically 3–7 days (sometimes up to 2 weeks) — where clients work deeply with a therapist (or small team) in extended sessions (4–8 hours/day). They're often held in serene, distraction-free settings like nature retreats, coastal spots, or private accommodations.
These retreats include somatic experiencing, ART/Accelerated Resolution Therapy) to target core issues like trauma, grief, burnout, attachment wounds, or lingering anxiety/depression.
They are held with a personalized 1:1 or small-group format — high customization, often with built-in breaks for integration (walks, rest, gentle somatic practices).
